August Highlights, September Goals, and Gear Reviews

I can’t believe it’s almost September, can you? It crept up on me like a ninja. August was such a cool month, I’m sad to see it go. Here were a few of my favorite parts of this past month:

  • I made my own almond butter
  • I ran 4 miles
  • The new Civil Wars album came out
  • I went for more bike rides in August than I have in all of the other months of this year combined
  • I got this jacket from Lululemon and it’s my new favorite thing

But even though September has to be full of things like school and work, I think it’s still going to be a pretty awesome month. On the agenda…

  • My first sprint triathlon!!!
  • Launching the Triorbust tshirt store
  • Finally ordering my fall cycling/running gear that I’ve been saving for (it’s already cold here in the mornings)
  • Learning how to use the funky weight machines in the gym. Thus far I’ve only ever used free weights when I’m cross-training.
  • I’m determined to open myself up to more food groups, instead of living off of things like hummus and guacamole 24/7.

And here’s a list of the gear I’ve been using/ plan to use in the following month(s):

  • Lululemon Swiftly Tech Racerback – I absolutely love these for running and yoga. They’re sweat wicking and are great on their own or as a base layer on colder days. I think I need a third one…
  • Zoot Tri Top & Tri shorts – These are what I plan to use on race day! They’re supposed to be reflective so that the dark colors don’t get hot – we’ll see if it works 🙂
  • Cannondale Women’s Gel Gloves– These are more of a spring/summer item but I’ll continue to use them until I need something warmer. They’re super comfortable and I haven’t gotten any blisters since I’ve started using these – highly recommended!
  • C9 capris – These are great for running, cross training, and yoga when you don’t want shorts but don’t want long pants in your way. They’re quick drying and the mesh part is great for avoiding that nasty thing where you’re super sweaty behind your knees. I plan to use them all year round.
  • Lululemon Swiftly Tech Half Zip– Can you tell I really like things in Swiftly fabric? I can’t help it. It’s awesome. I plan to use this for morning runs (and maybe I’ll even wear it for cycling…)
  • Pearl Izumi Softshell Jacket – As it gets colder I’m going to look into getting one of these, but probably not for a couple of months. It looks like a good quality item, though!

Question of the day:

What are you looking forward to this month?

Whats your current favorite piece of gear?

A PR and Sweatshirts

Good afternoon!

This morning I did a 30 minute strength training session, and then set a new PR for two circuits that I like to do. They’re both a series of squats and burpees and things like that and I like to try them every once in a while to see if I can improve my time. I beat both of my old records by about 1 minute, so it’s probably going to be a good day in general for me 🙂

Another highlight has been these strawberries. Mmmm.

Is anyone else having a really hard time not spending all of their money on the new running stuff at Lululemon? Please tell me I’m not the only one. I need to hire someone to repeatedly tell me that I don’t need 5 sweatshirts, because thats the number that I want to buy. One for yoga, one for running, one for cycling, one for rest days, and one just because it has thumb holes. I have a problem.

I’m trying to distract myself with paleo cookies. It’s not working.

Ok, well it lasted for a little while.

Recipe to come tomorrow!

Speaking of tomorrow, school starts tomorrow.

I’m super excited to have 3 gyms, a pool, and lots of running area at my disposal. I’m also kind of excited for my Exercise Science course this semester.

Clearly I’ve got my priorities in line.

The real challenge is going to be finding enough food to last me through a whole day at college until I finally get to go home to a good meal.

Thankfully I’ve had some practice in this area and I think with enough meal prep, I’ll be able to go through my classes without my stomach making whale noises.

But for now, It’s movie time on my last night of summer vacation.

The Great Gatsby has always been my favorite book. I know a lot of fans of the book didn’t like the movie, but I think it’s pretty great.

Now where’s my jar of peanut butter….

Question of the day:

How many sweatshirts/jackets do you have for athletic purposes?

I have an old hand-me-down North Face. My years of withdrawal are probably what are sparking my sudden obsession. I knew it wasn’t my fault!

Back to School – Meals and Tri training

Having a really awesome weekend just makes Monday that much harder. I got to go on 2 bike rides, eat a lot of peanut butter, and celebrate my birthday. I didn’t even mind that I had to work because, um, hello– 2 bike rides.

I also did a lot of online shopping (my fav kind of shopping– no eye contact with sales people who want to pressure you into giving them more commission by emptying your wallet. Also, no trying things on.)

Hopefully it will all arrive this week so I can give you guys some reviews – I ordered a jacket from Lululemon, a grey running/ yoga tank (also from Lulu,) and tri shorts and a jersey from REI since they’re having a massive sale for Labor Day.

Also, I signed up for a Sprint Tri! I only have a couple weeks left until the race so heres my training plan for the week to try to get ready in time:

Monday: Triceps Workout

Tuesday: Lower Body Circuit; Run a few miles; maybe bike

Wednesday: Treadmill 4 miles of intervals; weights

Thursday: Rip and Ride (I think that means spin class…. Ill find out soon I guess!); Swim 20 minutes

Friday: Maybe pull out an old p90x DVD for old times sake

Saturday: 15 mile Bike ride; Run; Bike 15 more miles

Sunday: Yoga

I have no idea when I’m going to be around this week with school starting again and everything, so meals are a little nuts. I do have a few things that I really want to make though:

  • Gluten Free Meatballs
  • Spicy Turkey Burgers
  • Mashed Cauliflower (how have I not tried this phenomenon yet??)
  • Coconut Almond Butter cookies (this is going to be an experiment)
  • Mixed Berry Tarts with Almond Crust (another experiment, if I have time)
  • Mango Smoothie (that frozen mango is still sittin in the freezer)
  • More Energy Bar Bites

And the rest is probably going to be salad with Sabra hummus and carrot sticks (my go to when Im busy.)

Question of the day:

How was your weekend?

Any big races coming up?
